Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 82 depicts God standing in the "congregation of the mighty" to judge the earthly judges, demanding justice for the poor, the fatherless, and the afflicted.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Divine Accountability: All earthly authority is accountable to God. Leaders are called to "defend the poor and fatherless" (v. 3).
2. The Foundation of the Earth: When justice is perverted, "all the foundations of the earth are out of course" (v. 5). Moral order is the basis for social stability.

FORMAL PRAYER

Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations. Grant us leaders who walk in Thy righteousness. Amen.
