Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 32 is a Maschil of David, describing the blessedness of the man whose transgression is forgiven and whose sin is covered. It contrasts the misery of silence with the joy of confession.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Weight of Unconfessed Sin: Keeping silence caused David’s bones to "wax old" (v. 3). Guilt is a physical and emotional burden that only confession can lift.
2. The Blessing of Forgiveness: Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity (v. 2). This is a foundational text for the doctrine of justification by faith.
3. Guidance by the Eye: God promises to guide us with His eye (v. 8). This suggests an intimate relationship where we are sensitive to God’s smallest cues.

FORMAL PRAYER

Thou art our hiding place, O Lord. We acknowledge our sin unto Thee and thank Thee for the forgiveness that restores our joy and preserves us from trouble. Amen.
