That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

Psalms 78 Study & Commentary
Psalm 78 is a long historical psalm, exhorting the next generation to learn from the rebellion of their fathers and God’s faithfulness from Egypt to David.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Teaching the Children: We must not hide God’s works from the "generation to come" (v. 4). Family discipleship is vital.2. The Danger of Unbelief: Israel limited the Holy One of Israel by their doubt (v. 41). Our faith or doubt affects our experience of God.
