Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 22 is a profound Messianic prophecy. It begins with the cry "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" and describes the suffering, mockery, and eventual victory of the Sufferer.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Cry of the Forsaken: Even in the deepest sense of abandonment, the psalmist still says "My God" (v. 1). Faith persists even when feelings of God’s presence fail.
2. The Precision of Prophecy: The piercing of hands and feet and the casting of lots for garments (v. 16-18) were fulfilled in Christ. This proves the divine inspiration of Scripture.
3. A Global Message: The suffering leads to a testimony that "all the ends of the world" shall remember and turn to the Lord (v. 27). Mission is fueled by the victory of the Cross.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord, we marvel at Thy suffering for our sake. Thank Thee for the victory that follows the cross, and help us to declare Thy righteousness to a generation yet to be born. Amen.
