Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 8 is a hymn of praise to God’s glory in creation and His condescension to man. David marvels that the Creator of the stars would be mindful of human beings, crowning them with glory and honor.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Dignity of Man: God made man "a little lower than the angels" (v. 5). Our value comes from our Creator, not our achievements or social status.
2. God’s Name in the Earth: "How excellent is thy name in all the earth!" (v. 1). We should look for God’s "signature" in the complexity and beauty of the natural world.
3. Strength from the Weak: God ordains strength out of the mouths of babes. Humility and simple faith are more powerful than the strength of the enemy.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord our Lord, how excellent is Thy name in all the earth! We thank Thee for being mindful of us and for crowning us with Thy grace and honor. Amen.
