Psalms 54 Study & Commentary

Psalm 54 is a short prayer for deliverance from "strangers" and "oppressors." David confidently asserts that God is his helper and will uphold his soul.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. God as Helper: "Behold, God is mine helper" (v. 4). This should be our primary confession in any time of opposition.
2. Voluntary Praise: David promises to "freely sacrifice" and praise God’s name because it is good.

FORMAL PRAYER

Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength. Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth. Amen.
