Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 12 is a lament over the prevalence of deceit and the disappearance of the godly. David finds comfort in the purity of God’s words, which are like silver purified seven times.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Vanishing Godly: "Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth" (v. 1). When faithful people are few, our reliance on God’s direct help must increase.
2. Flattering Lips: Deceit is a sign of a corrupt culture. We must guard our speech and value truth in a world of "double hearts."
3. The Purity of Scripture: God’s words are "pure words" (v. 6). Unlike human promises, God’s Word is completely reliable and free from any dross of error.

FORMAL PRAYER

Help, Lord, for the faithful fail from among the children of men. Keep us, O Lord, and preserve us from this generation forever by the purity of Thy holy Word. Amen.
