Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 42 expresses a deep longing for God, using the imagery of a hart panting for water brooks while the soul is cast down by the taunts of enemies.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Spiritual Thirst: Our souls were made for God; nothing else can satisfy that deep "panting" (v. 1-2).
2. Deep Calleth unto Deep: In the midst of overwhelming waves, God’s lovingkindness is still a song in the night (v. 7-8).

FORMAL PRAYER

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. Amen.
