Psalms 36 Study & Commentary

Psalm 36 contrasts the wickedness of the ungodly with the excellent lovingkindness of God. It describes God’s mercy reaching to the heavens and His faithfulness to the clouds.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Fountain of Life: "With thee is the fountain of life" (v. 9). Every good thing we enjoy flows directly from God’s character.
2. The Shadow of Thy Wings: The children of men put their trust under the shadow of God’s wings (v. 7). This imagery conveys absolute safety and intimacy.
3. In Thy Light shall we see Light: We cannot truly understand the world or ourselves until we see things through the lens of God’s truth.

FORMAL PRAYER

How excellent is Thy lovingkindness, O God! Continue Thy lovingkindness unto them that know Thee, and Thy righteousness to the upright in heart. Amen.
