Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 18 is a long hymn of praise for God’s deliverance. David describes God as his rock, fortress, and deliverer, and vividly depicts God’s dramatic intervention from heaven on his behalf.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. God as our Strength: "I will love thee, O Lord, my strength" (v. 1). Recognizing that our ability to overcome comes from God is the key to victory.
2. Divine Intervention: David uses cosmic imagery—smoke, fire, and darkness—to describe God hearing his cry (v. 6-15). God is actively involved in the battles of His people.
3. The Reward of Cleanness: God rewarded David according to the "cleanness of my hands" (v. 20-24). While saved by grace, our experience of God’s blessing is often tied to our obedience.

FORMAL PRAYER

The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock! We thank Thee, O God, for being our high tower and our deliverer, girding us with strength for every battle we face. Amen.
