Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 16 is a Michtam of David, expressing total satisfaction in God. It contains the prophecy that God will not leave His soul in hell nor suffer His Holy One to see corruption.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. God as our Portion: "The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance" (v. 5). When God is our everything, we find that the "lines are fallen unto us in pleasant places."
2. Setting the Lord Before Us: By keeping God "at my right hand," we find stability and joy (v. 8). Practice the presence of God throughout the day.
3. The Path of Life: In God’s presence is "fulness of joy" and "pleasures for evermore" (v. 11). This is the ultimate promise for both this life and the next.

FORMAL PRAYER

Preserve us, O God, for in Thee do we put our trust. Show us the path of life and grant us the fullness of joy that is found only in Thy presence. Amen.
