Chapter Study & Analysis

Psalm 17 is David’s "prayer of the upright" for protection against those who are enclosed in their own fat. He looks forward to being satisfied when he awakes with God’s likeness.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Apple of the Eye: David asks to be kept as the "apple of the eye" (v. 8). This shows the tender and protective nature of God’s love for His children.
2. Worldly Portions: Some people have their portion only "in this life" (v. 14). We should seek an eternal portion that transcends physical comfort.
3. The Ultimate Satisfaction: True satisfaction comes only when we awake in God’s likeness (v. 15). Our earthly desires are but shadows of our desire for Him.

FORMAL PRAYER

Hide us under the shadow of Thy wings, O Lord. Keep us as the apple of Thine eye and let us be satisfied when we awake with Thy likeness. Amen.
