Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 60 - The Rising Glory: A vision of the future Zion. While darkness covers the earth, the light of God rises upon His people. The nations bring their wealth to the city, the gates are always open, and the sun is replaced by the Lord's own glory.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Glory of Zion: The "rising" of God's light attracting the Gentiles. This is the fulfillment of the Abrahamic promise.
2. Reversed Fortune: The "forsaken" city becomes an "eternal excellency." The "sons of strangers" shall build her walls.
3. Divine Illumination: Verse 19-20 anticipates the New Jerusalem in Revelation, where God is the everlasting light.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Being a Reflector: "Arise, shine; for thy light is come." We are called to reflect God's glory to a dark world.
2. Openness: Keeping our "gates open continually" to receive what God is bringing into His Kingdom.
