Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Isaiah 42 - The First Servant Song: God introduces His chosen Servant who will bring forth judgment to the Gentiles with gentleness ("A bruised reed shall he not break"). It also features a "New Song" of praise and a rebuke to the "blind" and "deaf" servants.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. The Mission of the Servant: Christ is the light of the Gentiles, opening blind eyes and releasing prisoners from the prison house (v. 6-7).
2. Divine Glory: "I am the Lord... and my glory will I not give to another" (v. 8). God is jealous for His unique status as Creator.
3. The New Thing: God declares "new things" before they spring forth, showing His creative word in action.
