Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 55 - The Invitation to the Thirsty: A universal call to "come to the waters" and buy wine and milk without money. God urges the wicked to forsake their ways, promising that His Word will not return void but will accomplish His purpose.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Freeness of Grace: Salvation cannot be earned; it is a "gift" to be received by those who thirst.
2. The Transcendence of God's Thoughts: "My thoughts are not your thoughts" (v. 8). God's ways of mercy exceed human logic.
3. The Efficacy of the Word: The Word of God is like rain (v. 10-11); it is ontologically impossible for it to fail its mission.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Seeking while Near: The urgency of seeking the Lord "while he may be found."
2. Contentment in God: Why spend money for that which "satisfieth not" (v. 2)?
