Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 16 - The Refuge in Zion: Moab is counseled to seek protection from Judah. The prophecy laments Moab's extreme pride and concludes with a definitive timeline for Moab's collapse—within three years.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Davidic Throne of Mercy: Verse 5 points to a throne established in mercy where one shall sit in truth, "judging, and seeking judgment."
2. Pride as the Cause of Ruin: "We have heard of the pride of Moab... but his lies shall not be so" (v. 6).

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Providing Sanctuary: Zion is called to be a "covert" (hiding place) for the outcasts.
2. The Brevity of Glory: Moab's glory was "contemned" in a very short time.
