Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 44 - The Folly of the Idol-Maker: A satirical and profound exposure of the absurdity of carving a god from the same wood used to cook a meal. It ends with the remarkable prophecy naming Cyrus as the one who will rebuild Jerusalem.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Gift of the Spirit: "I will pour my spirit upon thy seed" (v. 3), using water as a metaphor for spiritual refreshment and growth.
2. The Absurdity of Sin: Verse 20: "He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside." Sin is portrayed as an intellectual and spiritual delusion.
3. Specific Prophecy: Naming "Cyrus" (v. 28) nearly 150 years before his birth is one of the strongest evidences of divine inspiration in the KJV.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Identifying Modern Idols: Recognizing anything we "fashion" to give us the security that only God provides.
2. God as the First and Last: Finding rest in the eternal nature of Jehovah (v. 6).
