Isaiah 17 - The Burden of Damascus: A prophecy against Syria (Damascus) and Northern Israel (Ephraim) for their confederacy. It predicts their desolation but promises a "gleaning" of people who will eventually look to their Maker.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. The Maker's Regard: After judgment, man shall "look to his Maker" (v. 7) instead of the altars made with hands.2. The Rushing of Nations: God rebukes the nations that roar like the sea; they are chased like "chaff of the mountains before the wind" (v. 13).
PRACTICAL LESSONS
1. Rejecting Human Alliances: Relying on political "confederacies" over God leads to shared ruin.2. The Remnant Principle: Even in the desolation, God preserves a few "olive berries" for Himself.
