Isaiah 15 Study & Commentary

Isaiah 15 - The Burden of Moab: A vivid description of the sudden destruction falling upon Moab. The chapter is filled with place names and the sounds of lamentation as the nation is devastated in a single night.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Sorrow of Judgment: God shows no pleasure in destruction; the text reflects a tone of mourning for the suffering of Moab.
2. The Suddenness of Wrath: "In the night Ar of Moab is laid waste," showing that divine judgment often comes when least expected.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. The Futility of False Refuges: Moab flees to high places and altars that cannot save them.
2. Empathy in Prophecy: Even when declaring judgment, there is a place for weeping over the ruin of people.
