Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Isaiah 41 - The Trial of the Nations: God summons the islands to a court case, challenging the idols to predict the future or explain the past. He reassures Israel ("Fear thou not; for I am with thee") and promises to raise up a deliverer from the east.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. The Sovereignty of History: God proves His deity through His control over time and nations. Only Jehovah can declare the end from the beginning.
2. The Helper of Israel: "Fear thou not; for I am with thee" (v. 10). God's presence is the ontological basis for Israel's security.
3. Monotheism vs. Polytheism: Idols are "wind and confusion" (v. 29). The chapter is a polemic against the futility of man-made religion.
