Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 20 - The Naked Prophet: Isaiah is commanded to walk "naked and barefoot" for three years as a sign. This acted prophecy warns Judah that trusting in Egypt and Ethiopia will lead only to shame.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Prophetic Symbolism: The prophet's physical body becomes a "sign and wonder" (v. 3). The message is lived before it is spoken.
2. The Futility of False Hope: The "expectation" of the people becomes their "shame" when their allies are defeated.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. The Cost of Obedience: True ministry may require enduring public humiliation for the sake of the message.
2. The Lesson of Reliance: Any refuge outside of God will eventually strip us bare.
