Chapter Study & Analysis

The Mountain of the Lord: A vision of the future glory of Zion where all nations flow to God's house. This is contrasted with the Day of the Lord coming against the pride of man, where idols will be cast to the bats and moles.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Eschatological Zion: The last days (v. 2) point to the universal reign of Christ.
2. The Humiliation of Humanism: The lofty looks of man being humbled (v. 11) establishes God's intolerance for self-exaltation.
3. Cessation of Idolatry: The total abandonment of man-made gods in the presence of majesty.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Walking in the Light: A call to live now in the light that will eventually fill the whole earth.
2. Ceasing from Man: Verse 22 warns against putting ultimate trust in human strength.
