Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Isaiah 26 - The Song of Judah: A song of trust in God’s "strong city." It speaks of the "perfect peace" of those whose minds are stayed on Jehovah and contains one of the clearest Old Testament references to the resurrection of the dead.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. Perfect Peace (Shalom Shalom): The result of a mind "stayed" or anchored in God’s character (v. 3).
2. The Rock of Ages: "In the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength" (v. 4)—literally, the Rock of Ages.
3. The Resurrection: "Thy dead men shall live... Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust" (v. 19). Physical resurrection is the hope of the righteous.
