Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 45 - The Commission of Cyrus: God calls Cyrus His "anointed" to subdue nations for Israel's sake. It asserts God's absolute control over light and darkness, peace and evil, and invites the whole world to look to Him and be saved.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Universal Sovereignty: "I form the light, and create darkness... I the Lord do all these things" (v. 7). There is no dualism; God is over all.
2. The Potter's Right: "Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou?" (v. 9). A lesson in divine prerogative.
3. Global Invitation: "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth" (v. 22). The gospel call is universal.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Submission to the Creator: Accepting God's methods even when they involve unexpected instruments (like a pagan king).
2. Sole Trust: Acknowledging that only in the Lord do we have "righteousness and strength."
