Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 37 - The Prayer of Hezekiah: Hezekiah seeks Isaiah's counsel and spreads Rabshakeh's letter before the Lord. God responds with a promise of deliverance, and the Angel of the Lord destroys 185,000 Assyrians in one night.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Sovereignty of Prayer: Hezekiah "spread it before the Lord" (v. 14). Prayer is the primary weapon against overwhelming odds.
2. Jehovah as Sole God: "Thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth" (v. 16).
3. Divine Vindication: God defends the city "for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake."

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Spreading the Burden: Bringing our "letters" of trouble directly to God's presence.
2. God's Final Word: The world's greatest armies are nothing compared to a single word from God.
