Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 53 - The Man of Sorrows: The supreme prophecy of the Atonement. It describes the Servant's rejection, His vicarious suffering ("wounded for our transgressions"), His silent submission, His death with the wicked/rich, and His ultimate satisfaction in justifying many.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Substitutionary Atonement: The core of Christian theology. "The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all" (v. 6).
2. The Divine Will in Suffering: "It pleased the Lord to bruise him" (v. 10). The Cross was not an accident but a sovereign plan.
3. The Resurrection Hint: After making His soul an offering for sin, He shall "see his seed" and "prolong his days" (v. 10).

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. The Cost of Sin: Recognizing that our peace was purchased by the "chastisement" of another.
2. Silent Submission: Learning from Christ's example of not opening His mouth when facing unjust suffering.
