Chapter Study & Analysis

Isaiah 28 - The Cornerstone in Zion: A "Woe" against the drunkards of Ephraim and a rebuke to the scoffing leaders of Jerusalem. God promises to lay a "tried stone, a precious corner stone" in Zion as the only sure foundation.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Foundation Stone: Verse 16 is a foundational Messianic prophecy applied to Christ in the New Testament. He is the only security against the "overflowing scourge."
2. Precept upon Precept: God’s method of teaching. For those who reject clear revelation, it becomes a means of stumbling (v. 13).
3. The Covenant with Death: Mockers think they are safe, but their "hiding place" of lies will be swept away.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Foundational Trust: Building one’s life on the "Cornerstone" so as not to be in "haste" (panic) during trials.
2. Listening to the Farmer: God knows how to "plow" and "thresh" (v. 24-29); He uses the right measure of discipline for each person.
