Chapter Study & Analysis

Joseph mourns Jacob and buries him in Canaan with a great company. After the burial, the brothers fear Joseph’s revenge. Joseph responds with the famous words: "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good." Joseph dies at 110, making them swear to carry his bones to Canaan when they depart Egypt.
1. The Ultimate Summary of Providence: "God meant it unto good." This is the key to understanding all of Genesis.
2. Comforting Others: Joseph "comforted them, and spake kindly unto them," showing the depth of a transformed heart.
3. Faith in the Future: Joseph’s request for his bones showed he knew Egypt was not their permanent home.
