Chapter Study & Analysis

Dinah, Jacob’s daughter, is defiled by Shechem, son of Hamor. Her brothers, Simeon and Levi, seek revenge through deceit. They convince the men of Shechem to be circumcised and then slay them all while they are sore. Jacob is grieved by their violence, fearing it will make him "stink among the inhabitants of the land."
1. The Danger of Worldly Associations: Dinah "went out to see the daughters of the land," leading to a tragic encounter.
2. Unrighteous Anger: Simeon and Levi’s revenge was disproportionate and cruel, teaching that anger must be governed by justice, not just emotion.
3. The Weight of Testimony: Our actions reflect on our families and our God.
