Chapter Study & Analysis

The famine continues, and Judah guarantees Benjamin’s safety to Jacob. The brothers return to Egypt with gifts and double money. Joseph is overcome with emotion when he sees Benjamin and makes a feast for them. The brothers marvel as they are seated according to their birthright, and Benjamin’s mess is five times larger than theirs.
1. The Burden of Responsibility: Judah’s willingness to be surety for Benjamin shows his growth in character.
2. Divine Hospitality: Joseph’s kindness, despite their past cruelty, reflects God’s grace toward us.
3. God’s Peace: The steward tells them, "Peace be to you, fear not," reminding us that God is working even when we are afraid.
