Chapter Study & Analysis

God tempts (tests) Abraham, commanding him to offer Isaac as a burnt offering on Mount Moriah. Abraham obeys, telling Isaac, "God will provide himself a lamb." As he draws the knife, the Angel of the LORD stops him. A ram caught in a thicket is offered instead. God names the place Jehovah-jireh and reaffirms the covenant.
1. Total Obedience: Abraham proved that God was more important to him than even his most precious blessing.
2. Prophetic Picture: This event is a clear "type" of God the Father offering His Son, Jesus, as the ultimate sacrifice.
3. Jehovah-jireh: We can trust that "In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen" (The Lord will provide).
