Chapter Study & Analysis

Following the death of Joseph, a new king arose in Egypt who "knew not Joseph." Fearing the rapid growth of the children of Israel, the Egyptians placed them under bitter bondage and rigorous labor. Despite the decree to slay every male child, the midwives feared God, and the people multiplied exceedingly, setting the stage for the great deliverance.
1. God’s Promises Persist: Even under persecution, God’s promise to multiply Abraham’s seed remained unshakable.
2. Courageous Obedience: The midwives chose to fear God rather than man, proving that civil disobedience is righteous when man’s law contradicts God’s law.
3. The Strength of Affliction: Often, the more the enemy afflicts God’s people, the more they grow in strength and number.
