Chapter Study & Analysis

Four kings war against five, and Lot is taken captive. Abram arms his trained servants (318 men) and rescues Lot. Upon his return, he is met by Melchizedek king of Salem, the priest of the most high God, who brings forth bread and wine. Abram gives him tithes of all.
1. Responsibility: Abram did not abandon Lot despite his poor choices.
2. Melchizedek: As a priest-king, he is a significant "type" of Christ (Hebrews 7).
3. Tithing: Abram honors God with his wealth before the Law was ever given.
