Chapter Study & Analysis

Jacob arrives in Haran and meets Rachel at the well. He agrees to serve Laban seven years for her, which "seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her." Laban deceives him, giving him Leah instead. Jacob serves another seven years for Rachel. Leah bears children while Rachel remains barren.
1. Reaping what is Sown: Jacob, the deceiver, is himself deceived by Laban, learning the pain of dishonesty.
2. Patient Love: True love is willing to sacrifice and wait for God’s provision.
3. God’s Compassion: God saw that Leah was "hated" (unloved) and opened her womb, showing His care for the unloved.
