Chapter Study & Analysis

Sarah dies at the age of 127 in Hebron. Abraham, a stranger and a sojourner, purchases the field of Machpelah and its cave from Ephron the Hittite for four hundred shekels of silver. This becomes the first piece of land owned by the patriarchs in the promised land.
1. Integrity in Business: Abraham insists on paying full price for the land, maintaining an honest testimony before the people.
2. Faith in Death: By burying Sarah in Canaan, Abraham shows his faith that his descendants would one day possess the whole land.
