Chapter Study & Analysis

Jacob calls his sons to tell them what shall befall them in the "last days." He gives specific prophecies for each tribe. Most notably, he declares that the Sceptre shall not depart from Judah until Shiloh come. Jacob dies after charging them to bury him in the cave of Machpelah.
1. The Lion of Judah: The prophecy of Shiloh is a direct reference to the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, from the line of Judah.
2. Words have Weight: A father’s blessing and warning carry spiritual significance for future generations.
3. Peaceful End: Jacob "yielded up the ghost" and was gathered unto his people, at peace with God and family.
