Overview
Isaac, now old and blind, intends to bless Esau. Rebekah and Jacob conspire to deceive him using skins of kids to mimic Esau’s hairiness. Isaac blesses Jacob, saying, "the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed." Esau returns, weeps bitterly, and vows to kill Jacob.
Practical Lessons
1. The Bitter Fruit of Deceit: Although the blessing was Jacob’s by prophecy, his use of trickery led to years of exile and family strife.
2. Irrevocable Words: The patriarchal blessing was seen as a binding prophetic word that could not be taken back.
3. Parental Favoritism: The favoritism of Isaac and Rebekah caused deep division in the home.
