Chapter Study & Analysis

Cain, a tiller of the ground, and Abel, a keeper of sheep, bring offerings to God. Abel’s sacrifice of the "firstlings of his flock" is accepted, but Cain's is not. In jealousy, Cain slays Abel. When questioned, Cain asks: "Am I my brother's keeper?". Cain is cursed, but the lineage continues through Seth.
1. Heart of Worship: God respects the heart behind the offering, not just the gift.
2. Mastering Sin: We must rule over the sin that "lieth at the door."
3. Brotherly Love: We are indeed responsible for the well-being of those around us.
