Chapter Study & Analysis

This chapter pauses the story of Joseph to focus on Judah. After the death of his sons, Judah fails to give his youngest son to his daughter-in-law Tamar. Tamar disguises herself, and Judah unknowingly conceives twins with her. When discovered, Judah admits, "She hath been more righteous than I." One of the twins, Pharez, becomes an ancestor of King David and Jesus Christ.
1. God’s Sovereign Grace: God uses even the failures and complex stories of men to bring about the lineage of the Savior.
2. Confessing Wrong: Judah’s admission of his own fault shows a turning point in his character.
