And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.

The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.

Genesis 12 Study & Commentary
God commands Abram to get out of his country unto a land He will show him, promising to make him a "great nation" and that in him all families of the earth shall be blessed. Abram journeys to Canaan but later goes down to Egypt because of a famine, where he deceitfully says Sarai is his sister.
1. Step of Faith: True faith requires leaving the familiar to follow God's command.
2. Universal Blessing: The promise that "all families" would be blessed points forward to Jesus Christ.
3. Human Frailty: Even "men of faith" can stumble into fear and deceit when they look at circumstances instead of God.
