Chapter Study & Analysis

God refuses to go with the "stiffnecked" people, but Moses pitches the Tabernacle of the congregation outside the camp. Moses pleads: "If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence." God promises His presence, and Moses asks to see God’s glory. God hides him in a cleft of the rock as His glory passes by.
1. The Necessity of God’s Presence: Success without God’s presence is the ultimate failure; we must value His nearness above the Promised Land.
2. Intimacy with God: Moses spoke to God "as a man speaketh unto his friend," showing the level of intimacy available to the faithful.
3. God’s Sovereign Mercy: "I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious," reminding us that we stand before God by grace alone.
