Chapter Study & Analysis

God strikes the cattle with murrain, the people with boils, and the land with a grievous hail mingled with fire. Even amidst this destruction, Pharaoh acknowledges his sin momentarily but hardens his heart again once the rain and hail cease.
1. The Purpose of Judgment: God’s plagues were designed "that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth."
2. Mercy in Judgment: God warned the Egyptians to bring their servants and cattle indoors before the hail, showing that even in wrath, He offers a way of escape for those who believe His word.
3. False Repentance: Pharaoh confessed sin only to stop the pain, not to change his heart. Beware of "death-bed" repentance that vanishes when the sun shines.
