Chapter Study & Analysis

Israel camps before the mount. God proposes a covenant: if they obey, they shall be a "peculiar treasure" and a "kingdom of priests." The people sanctify themselves for three days. God descends upon Sinai in fire, smoke, and a loud trumpet, and the whole mount quakes greatly.
1. The Awe of God: Before God gives His law, He reveals His terrifying holiness to instill a proper fear of the Lord.
2. Separation: Boundaries were set around the mount; we cannot rush into the presence of a Holy God on our own terms.
3. Corporate Commitment: "All that the LORD hath spoken we will do." A covenant requires a response from the heart.
