Exodus 7 Study & Commentary

Moses is eighty years old as he stands before Pharaoh. Aaron’s rod becomes a serpent and swallows the rods of the magicians. When Pharaoh hardens his heart, the first plague is sent: the river Nile is turned to blood. The Egyptians find no water to drink, but Pharaoh remains unmoved.
1. Truth Swallows Error: Aaron’s serpent consuming the others shows that God’s power is always superior to demonic imitation.
2. Judgment on False Gods: By turning the Nile to blood, God judged the primary source of Egyptian life and worship.
3. The Danger of a Hardened Heart: Continual rejection of God’s word leads to spiritual blindness.
