Exodus 34 Study & Commentary

God commands Moses to hew two new tables of stone. God proclaims His character: "The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious..." The covenant is renewed, and Moses stays on the mount forty days. When he descends, the skin of his face shone so brightly that he had to put a vail on his face while speaking to the people.
1. God’s Renewing Grace: God is the God of the second chance, restoring the covenant even after a great fall.
2. Transformation by Presence: Spending time with God changes us; the "radiance" of a believer should be evident to others.
3. Total Separation: God strictly forbids covenants with the inhabitants of the land to prevent spiritual adultery.
