Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Moses is born and hidden in an ark of bulrushes among the flags by the river’s brink. Pharaoh’s daughter finds him and adopts him. As a man, Moses attempts to deliver Israel by his own hand, slaying an Egyptian, and is forced to flee to Midian. There, he dwells for forty years, marrying Zipporah and waiting for God’s appointed time.
Practical Lessons
1. Providence in the Palace: God used Pharaoh’s own household to protect and educate the future deliverer of Israel.
2. Divine Timing vs. Human Zeal: Moses had the right desire but the wrong timing; he had to be humbled in the desert before he could lead in the power of God.
3. God Hears the Groaning: God is never indifferent to our suffering; He remembers His covenant even when we feel forgotten.
