Exodus 13 Study & Commentary

God sanctifies the firstborn and commands the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Moses carries the bones of Joseph. God leads the people not by the way of the Philistines, lest they faint at war, but through the wilderness. The LORD goes before them in a pillar of a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
1. God’s Gentle Guidance: God knows our frame and leads us through paths we can handle, avoiding unnecessary conflict early in our walk.
2. Consecration: The firstborn belong to God, teaching us that the "firstfruits" of our lives and increase are His.
3. Continuous Presence: Whether in the "cloud" (obscurity) or "fire" (trial), God never leaves His people without guidance.
