Exodus 3 Study & Commentary

While keeping the flock at Horeb, Moses encounters the "angel of the LORD in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush." God reveals Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and commissions Moses to deliver Israel. God reveals His memorial name: "I AM THAT I AM."
1. The Holiness of God: The command to "put off thy shoes" teaches that we must approach the presence of God with profound reverence and humility.
2. The Self-Existent God: The name "I AM" declares that God is eternal, unchanging, and sufficient in Himself for all our needs.
3. Commissioned by Grace: God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called by His presence.
