Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Job 1 introduces Job as a blameless and upright man. Satan challenges God, claiming Job only serves Him for blessings. God allows Satan to take Job’s wealth and children, but Job worships, saying, "The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away."
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Worship in Loss: Job’s first response to tragedy was worship (v. 20-21). Our faith is truly tested not in what we gain, but in what we are willing to lose while remaining faithful.
2. The Invisible Battle: There is often a spiritual reality behind our physical trials that we cannot see. Knowing God is in control of the limits of our trials gives us hope.
3. Integrity Under Pressure: Integrity is doing right when everything goes wrong. Job did not "charge God foolishly."
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Lord, help us to say with Job: "Blessed be the name of the Lord." Grant us a faith that is not dependent on circumstances, but rooted in Thy unchanging character. Amen.
