Chapter Study & Analysis

Job 29 is a nostalgic look back at Job’s former days of blessing. He describes his honor in the community, his care for the poor, and the light of God that once shone upon his head.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. A Life of Impact: Job used his influence to help the "fatherless" and the "widow" (v. 12-13). When we are blessed, it is our responsibility to be a blessing to others.
2. The Honor of Integrity: Job was respected not just for his wealth, but for his justice and his character (v. 14). A good name is more valuable than great riches.
3. The Comfort of God’s Presence: Job missed the days when God’s "candle shined upon my head" (v. 3). We should never take the seasons of spiritual "sunshine" for granted.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, we thank Thee for the seasons of blessing and influence. Help us to use whatever "candle" Thou givest us to light the way for the broken and the lost. Amen.
